Crocus sp. on 3-6-26.
Hello everyone! I hope this post finds you well. I feel like I’ve been hibernating over the winter and seeing the Crocus in bloom have perked me up a little. We had a fairly mild winter with only a little snow. Temperatures have been up and down, though, with the forecast changing off and on. We had rain this past week with a couple of storms Friday night. Spring isn’t officially here until March 20, at least that’s what the calendar says. I keep remembering the snow we had on May 1 in 2013!

I’m not sure how long the Crocus have been blooming in the yard since a friend posted his blooming in his yard last week.

The earliest I have taken photos of them was on February 21 in 2024, and February 22 in 2023. The latest was on March 20 in 2022…

There are now three colonies. Interestingly, the first time dad and I saw them was in 2019, so I think they have done pretty well. They weren’t here when I lived here in the 1980’s and dad had never saw them since they moved here in 1996.
I still haven’t figured out the species or how in the world they came to live in the yard… Even so, they always put a smile on my face…

Crocuses are my favourite spring flower. Somewhere I have a picture of a butterfly on one in February. Good to see yuo around again, though I understand the feeling of hibernation. 🙂

They are one of those things we take for granted, I suppose. We have ahd several butterflies this year already, though it unusually early. Being fifty miles further south and lower down makes a big difference.

Butterflies are always a welcome sight. We had a fairly mild winter here so far which will make a lot of things early (like flies).

It’s spring, and all the flower-lovers are showing up again! It’s good to see you, and your crocuses. They’re such pretty flowers. I always wish we had them, but we can’t have everything, and heaven knows we’re rich in our own species of wildflowers. Enjoy the spring — who knows what will pop up next?

Hello Suzassippi! Pretty neat, huh? I’m not sure they grow down there in your neck of the woods. I didn’t see any when I lived in Mississippi. A fired of mine wanted me to plant tulips for her one year. I explained I didn’t think they would do well there, but she insisted. She ordered them from a source I suggested and I planted them one fall. They came up very well the first spring, but not very many came up the following spring. They need cooler winters and I think Crocus are in the same category. I was impressed by the neighbors Amaryllis, though. They can stay in the ground there and just come up and flower in the spring. I had one in the closet since that’s what I was used to. 🙂 Take care and thanks for the comment!

Seems winter and spring have had plenty of battles lately. Especially with temperature extremes. This weeks low has been -15, 70 by Wednesday, and in the 80’s Friday and Saturday. GEEZ! I am glad to hear you are yours are doing fine. 🙂
