The Araliaceae Family was named and described by Antoine Laurent de Jussieu in Genera Plantarum in 1789.
Plants of the World Online lists 43 accepted genera in this family (as of 1-24-21 when I am updating this page). Wikipedia says there are 55 genera and 1,500 species represented but their sources may not be current. It is hard to keep with name changes and the numbers sometimes change when updates are made.
