The plant family Papaveraceae was named and described by Antoine Laurent de Jussieu in Genera Plantarum in 1789.

As of 12-21-23 when this page was last updated, Plants of the World Online lists 46 genera in this family commonly referred to as the poppy family. The is a family mostly of herbaceous plants (annuals, biennials, and perennials) but also includes a few trees and shrubs.

I only have experience with Dicentra cucullaria (Dutchman’s Breeches) and Lamprocapnos spectabilis (Bleeding Heart) in this family. You can click on the name to go to its own page.
