Piperaceae Family:

Piperaceae Giseke

The Piperaceae Family was named and described by Paul Dietrich Giseke in Praelectiones in Ordines Naturales Plantarum in 1792.

Plants of the World Online lists 6 accepted genera in this family commonly known as the pepper family. The Wikipedia article on this family says there are 13 genera with around 3,600 species but it doesn’t list the genera.

The genera Plants of the World Online include:
Macropiper with 12 accepted species listed.
Manekia with 6 accepted species listed.
Peperomia with 1,339 accepted species listed.
Piper with 2,092 accepted species listed.
Verhuellia with 2 accepted species listed.
Zippelia with 1 accepted species listed.

The 2013 version of The Plant List named 13 genera but the other 7 have been absorbed into the current remaining genera. The Plant List is no longer maintained… When I get bored I will make some better comparisons.
