Hello Diane! Most people call any flowers that look like these Black-Eyed Susan. Rudbeckia fulgida var sullivanti ‘Goldstrum’ is listed as a Black-Eyed Susan however… Technically, Rudbeckia fulgida’s common name is Orange Coneflower. Rudbeckia hirta’s common name is Black-Eyed Susan, and Rudbeckia triloba is considered the Brown-Eyed Susan. GEEZ! In the field, besides this cultivar which is MUCH different than the wild species, they look so much alike it is hard to tell unless you know what to look for. Take care nd thanks for the comment!
Hmmm… I always have to refresh my memory when someone asks about the difference between the two. Don’t ask what the wild ones are in the flower beds, garden, pastures, and roadsides are. I have no clue what species is what. I am not about to disagree with anyone who calls them all Black-Eyed Susans. 🙂
GEEEZ!

Love these, I have always called mine Black Eyed Susan. I have also heard Brown Eyed Susan. Are these all different names for the same plant?
