The plant family Santalaceae R.Br. was named and described as such by Robert Brown in Prodromus Florae Nova Hollandiae et Insulae van-Diemen in 1810. 

The plant family Santalaceae is commonly referred to as the sandalwood family in the older Santalales. As of 5-13-25 when I added this page, Plants of the World Online lists 40 species in the family. It consists of over 1,000 species of semi parasitic herbs, shrubs, and trees in tropical and temperate regions. They are stem and root parasites…

This family of plants was new to me while walking through a well-maintained, native prairie on 5-5-25. I identified several new species, including Comandra umbellata (Bastard Toadflax), which I had never seen before. It is in this family… You can click on the plant’s name to go to its own page.
