I have been growing Allium ampeloprasum (Elephant Garlic) since my neighbor in Mississippi gave me a start in 2010. Their bulbs are great for cooking and their flowers make them great in flower beds. They have the properties of both garlic and onions. I don’t have a page for this species yet…

Lycoris squamigera on 8-19-13, #177-1.

Lycoris squamigera (Surprise Lily or Ressurection Lily) always grows in an area behind where my grandparent’s house used to be. For many years I thought they were Amaryllis belladonna which is similar. However, L. squamigera have rounded tips on their petals, whereas A. belladonna petals are pointed.
