First Visit to Osceola Cheese…

Hello folks! I hope this post finds you well. I have passed by Osceola Cheese in Osceola (Missouri) many times over the years but never stopped. I remember when my dad worked for Clearfield Cheese, he would bring home extra sharp cheddar cheese that would make your ears wiggle. A few weeks ago, a friend shared extra sharp cheddar from Osceola Cheese and it was amazing! SO, I woke up this morning determined to go…

Osceola Cheese is located on 13 Highway in Osceola, Missouri. It was a short drive, just 42 miles from home. The highway bypasses Osceola now, but you can take the exit to visit the historic town. The character ‘Rooster Cogburn” in True Grit hails from Osceola… Anyway, Osceola Cheese opened in 1944 and started online operations in 2006.

Ever wondered what over 275 varieties of cheese looks like? After being greeted by Scottie, I walked in the front door…

I looked straight ahead, then to the right, then to the left. I didn’t know where to begin…

So, I went to the right around the snacks and to the next isle where the cheeses were neatly packed in the coolers… Two large sections!

As you can see, the sign above this cooler says “over 275 varieties of cheese.” I didn’t count…

The above photo shows Vintage Cedar, Extra Shard Cheddar aged 15 years, 12 Year Cheddar Cheese, and Hot Pepper Jack.

How about Gruyere, Blue Marble Jack, or Chick Soup Jack?

Here we have Tomato and Basil Jack, Onion and Chive Cheddar, and Cheddar Jack with Pepperoni…

These caught my eye… Blueberry White Cheddar, Cranberry White Cheddar, followed by Bacon and Onion Cheddar…

Then I saw this one… Morel Mushroom & Leek Jack. Hmmm…

Extra Sharp Aged Swiss. They had several varieties of Swiss…

How about a little Hickory Smoked Apple Cinnamon Cheddar?

How about string cheese?

More string cheese…

Smokey Cheddar, anyone?

I turned around and spotted the pickled section. I have never heard of pickled asparagus. Made me want to try a jar, but I passed this time.

They had several varieties of pickled eggs, too.

Spices, sauces, etc…

Bacon, sausages, etc… My mouth was watering more…

More bacon and brats… There were more than just two coolers plus summer sausages not in coolers.

Remember pickled quail eggs? I used to see pickled chicken and quail eggs at some convenience stores, but that was a long time ago. Here, they have quite a variety…

How about some Gator Balls? Well, not actually…

During the summer, they offer samples of cheeses, Missouri Wines, and Moonshine… Hmmm… Besides the cheese (etc.) store, they have a gift shop and not sure what else… I didn’t venture farther than the main store. I was getting hungry and had to find someplace to eat…

This is just a sampler as there is a lot to take in. I will be going back during the summer to try their cheese samples. I can hardly wait!

Their website, osceolacheese.com, has a LONG cheese list and gift boxes. They ship if you can’t pickup your cheese in person… However, they cannot ship cheese during the summer…

So, if you are traveling in Missouri, put Osceola Cheese on your list of places to stop. Missouri has a lot of attractions no matter what you are interested in… Ummm… I have a bucket list…

Until next time, take care, stay well, positive, and always be thankful. GET DIRTY when the wind stops blowing!

    • Hello there! The White Blueberry Cheddar caught my eye, too. So many possibilities to choose from and some I don’t think I would like. Different tastes for different people. Did I purchase? Well, that is a secret… Does this anonymous reader have a name since you seem to know mine? Take care and thanks for the comment!

Osceola’s pretty close to the route I take to and from KCMO; it would be an easy jaunt over there to pick up some snacks to take with me on a visit to Diamond Grove prairie! You fooled me for a second with your title; there’s an Osceola, Iowa as well. As for cheese, I grew up in Newton, Iowa: the home of Maytag. They have a dairy farm that makes some of the best blue cheese in the world, but they have only a few other varieties. Your Osceola puts any cheese shop I’ve seen to shame!

    • Hello Linda! It would be worth a few extra miles to make the trip to Osceola. Osceola is 1 hour and 42 minutes away from Diamond. Well, maybe that’s not exactly a short drive, but it is still worth the trip. Diamond Grove Prairie sounds like a neat place to visit, too. Osceola Cheese isn’t that big of a store, but they sure have a lot of cheese! Take care and thanks for the comment!
