The Rutaceae Family was named and described by Antoine Laurent de Jussieu in Genera Plantarum in 1789.
Plants of the World Online lists 138 accepted genera in this family commonly known as the rue or citrus family.
To show progress, the 2013 version of The Plant List named 158 genera plus quite a number of unresolved genera. It listed 1,730 accepted species (plus 119 infraspecific names) 2,634 synonyms (plus 698 infraspecific names), and a total of 2,357 species and infraspecific names still unresolved. The Plant List is no longer maintained.
