Paeoniaceae Raf.
The family Paeoniaceae was named and described by Constantine Samuel Rafinesque in Analyse de la Nature in 1815.
The Paeonia is the only genus in this family and Plants of the World Online lists 39 accepted species as of January 7, 2018. There is still work being done classifying the species within this genus, so sooner or later we will have a more accurate number of species.
I had a catalog many years ago that listed HUNDREDS of Peony cultivars but I can’t remember the name of the company. GEEZ! Thay had a lot of Hosta and Daylilies, too. Now I remember! Klehm’s Songsparrow Nursery! I went to their website and they currently list 131 Peony cultivars,
