The Cucurbitaceae Family was named and described by Antoine Laurent de Jussieu in Genera Plantarum in 1789.
Plants of the World Online lists 89 accepted genera in this family and is commonly known as the gourd family. It includes cucumbers, squash, pumpkin, zucchini, watermelon, etc.
The Wikipedia says there are 95 genera which include about 965 species. The 2013 version of The Plant List (no longer maintained) included 134 genera plus several unresolved genera. It includes 1,007 accepted species, 2,322 synonyms, and 1,086 unresolved species.
